Wine licenses are now available for retail and convenience stores in Tennessee. To qualify to sell wine for off-site consumption, 20% of a store’s sales must come from retail sale of food and the store must have floor space of at least 1,200 square feet. Sale from other alcoholic beverages, tobacco, candy, dietary supplements, or prepared food do not count towards the 20% requirement.
Any company wishing to apply for an ABC Retail Food Store Wine License must apply to the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Once approved, any wine sold must contain less than 18% alcohol by volume, be sealed at the time of sale, and cannot be consumed on the premises. Additionally, store clerks that will be selling the wine must be certified through the Commission.
To renew an ABC Retail Food Store Wine License, a company must remain in good standing with all the ABC regulations and Tennessee statutes governing ABC Retail Food Store Wine License.
