Appellate Practice

Attorneys at OKH&C are committed to taking their clients all the way through the judicial system – from general sessions all the way to the Supreme Court with experience and consistency. Several of our partners have clerked for trial and appellate judges which gives OKH&C's appellate practice team a unique perspective to counsel their clients through the appellate process. Being the most familiar with the facts, evidence, and law involved in your particular matter, OKH&C has equipped itself to be the most effective means of continuing the representation of its clients through appeal in both State and Federal Courts. During trial, our lawyers are constantly mindful of preserving both evidentiary proof and legal arguments for appeal – an aspect of litigation often forgotten in the midst of trial. After trial, our appellate team takes a fresh-eyes review of the trial record and the outcome in order to advance the most persuasive arguments on appeal.

The lawyers at OKH&C have been lead counsel on a number of landmark decisions in this jurisdiction, and this experience has led them to be retained as special counsel for purposes of appeal only on certain highly specialized matters. Our appellate lawyers regularly appear before the Tennessee Court of Appeals, Tennessee Supreme Court Worker's Compensation Panel, and before the Tennessee Supreme Court. In these Courts, OKH&C has been lead counsel in over 200 appellate decisions. Our attorneys are frequently before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals as well.
